Lorelei Hoyt

Registered Provisional Psychologist

**Currently accepting new clients**

Lorelei is a Registered Provisional Psychologist providing psychotherapy to children, adults, and couples within the Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County with virtual appointments available throughout Alberta.

Lorelei has a 25 year background in the health sciences, and returned to university as a mature student, completing her Bachelors of Physical Sciences in 2014, followed by her Masters of Counselling Psychology in 2019.  She spent several years working with Alberta’s COVID-19 pandemic emergency response public health team and teaching at the University of Alberta. She incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities in her appointments and has a special interest in dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).

Lorelei enjoys helping clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences while considering how these have shaped their core underlying beliefs, impacted their success, and influenced their happiness. This supports the client in identifying patterns that are not helpful, realizing healthier, adaptive ways of thinking, incorporating these into their behaviours, and improving their quality of life.

Lorelei is a diverse but down to earth individual and approaches her work with that same attitude. She appreciates her peaceful country lifestyle and loves working in rural health care. Meanwhile she describes herself as a self admitted science nerd, who would be a permanent student if she could, and is always exploring the scientific basis for how the world around her works. This duality supports clients in a balanced therapeutic experience.

Why Me?

"Life is what happens when you are making other plans” Allen Saunders

If life’s other plans have left you distressed, fighting battles that seem to never end, or feeling defeated you are not alone. If you want to find peace and joy again we can help you make sense of your experience and create a fulfilling life. When you reach for support to make sense of your world you can free yourself from underlying patterns and conflicts, and develop the insight and skills you need to empower yourself. Peace and contentment are attainable with the right help. Reaching out is the first step.

I understand how overwhelming life can seem at times, but it can get better. You deserve a peaceful path through the world. I would be honoured to walk with you as you navigate life’s challenges to achieve your goals. I genuinely look forward to hearing your story and sharing your journey toward your best, most fulfilled self.

I enjoy working with the unique challenges experienced in rural populations, Veterans, First Responders, and Health Care Professionals. I am a provider for the AgKnow mental health program servicing Farm Families in Alberta.  My areas of interest include complex trauma and grief, emotional regulation, personality disorders and their impact on families, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and interactions between physiological and psychological health.

When I am not working I can be found in my garden or hanging with my critters and family. I am incessantly curious and always love learning new things from woodworking to music. I believe any day can be a good day if I have a chance to learn something new.
