Favourite Quote
“In the endless stumble toward ourselves, we harvest the crop we are given”
– Shelley Read, author
I love this quote (taken from the novel Go as a River), because it compassionately encourages me to consider the different resources each person has when tackling life’s issues. I love searching for and highlighting client’s strengths in sessions and supporting them in their unique lived experiences.
In counselling, and in my own personal life, I don’t believe there is such a thing as coincidence. The journeys we make, the experiences we have, those we meet along the way, all guide us exactly where we are supposed to go (wherever that is!).
I have lived in four countries, moved over twenty times in thirty years, and, for the last five years, have found Alberta a beautiful place to call home and build my career. I am honoured to hold space for my clients and support them, and it is a privilege I do not take lightly. As Trooper said, “we’re here for a good time, not a long time”.
While I cannot change the extraneous elements of your life, I can certainly help you to improve your inner experiences that might make the journey more pleasant! When I am not working, you can find me at the dog park with my 4-year-old Great Dane, Ozzy, reading in my favorite lazy-boy recliner, increasing my strength at the gym, spending time with my loved ones, cracking bad jokes, or trying my hand at a new recipe.
I am passionate about supporting Veterans, active CAF members, and First Responders. As part of a military family (spouse, sibling), I have an in-depth understanding of the specific culture, mentality, workplace-expectations, and higher probability of risks, illnesses, and disorders associated with these industries (e.g., OSI, PTSD, anger, family/marital strains, depression, anxiety, burnout). Additionally, I am interested in working with both adolescents and adults experiencing grief, loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, emotional regulation, and existential issues.
I enjoy helping clients make sense of their experiences, and find meaning, value, and understanding along the way. Rooted in a client-centred approach, I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental, and, at times, humorous environment to facilitate optimal growth for my clients.
As a Provisional Psychologist, I offer evidence-based, therapeutic practices and modalities that aim to lessen suffering and increase positive health and well-being. I have training in Acceptance+Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and I bring a Trauma-Informed approach to all my sessions.
I believe in empowerment - every individual has the strength and potential to enact powerful change, I am simply shining a light on all the strengths and skills you already possess and can use to overcome life’s challenges.
